Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has recently unveiled the examination pattern and significant questions for the Class 12 English paper scheduled for March 2024 in model papers. The release includes a detailed breakdown of the examination sections and essential topics to focus on for students preparing for the upcoming assessments.
Reading Comprehension (20 Marks)
The examination will feature two sections focusing on reading comprehension. The first section will include an unseen passage of 400-500 words, where students will be evaluated on note-making, summarizing, and providing a suitable title.
The second section will comprise another unseen passage, followed by ten objective-type questions covering various aspects like multiple-choice questions (MCQs), fill-ups, true/false statements, and Yes/No questions.
Writing Skills & Grammar (30 Marks)
This section will assess students’ writing skills and grammatical proficiency through various tasks. Students will be required to choose one out of two questions on advertisement writing or formal/informal invitations and replies.
Additionally, they will need to select one question from two options on letter writing, focusing on business or official letters, letters to editors, or letters to principals regarding admission, school issues, requirements, etc. A question on job application, including a cover letter and resume, will also be included.
Furthermore, students will have to choose one out of two compositions on article writing, debate, speech, or personal narrative, and one passage for editing to test various grammar elements like pronouns, tenses, punctuation, narration, conjunctions, prepositions, and change of voice.
Literature (30 Marks)
The literature section will delve into prescribed texts from the FLAMINGO and VISTAS textbooks. It will include questions based on poetic passages, short answer type questions on prescribed poems and prose lessons, and long answer type questions from the VISTAS textbook and the play, “On the Face of It.”

The release also highlights important short and long-answer type questions from the FLAMINGO and VISTAS textbooks. These questions cover a wide range of topics, including character analysis, thematic exploration, comprehension, and critical thinking.
